The craziest month of the year, disputed between winter and spring, is one of the best to visit art cities.
The mild climate and the upcoming blooms will be the backdrop to your stay and, thanks to our mini-guide, you won’t have to fear the weather and its oddities. Here are our suggestions for what to do both indoors and outdoors.
18.01.22 – 20.03.22 KOEN VANMECHELEN. SEDUZIONE. UFFIZI
Strong visual and conceptual impact for the works of the Belgian artist scattered throughout the Uffizi rooms in a striking dialogue with the Gallery of Statues and Paintings.
The artist declares himself in search of a new “Cosmopolitan Renaissance” based on the interconnectedness of all living beings. We fully agree, do you?
18.03.22 SOFT AS SNOW. SALA VANNI
More than a DJ-set, you will witness an artistic performance conceived by the duo of Norwegian musicians Oda Egjar Starheim and Øystein Monsen in collaboration with the 3D modeler Guynoid. Noise rock sounds and atmospheres that wink at club culture.
19.03.22 – 31.07.22 DONATELLO, IL RINASCIMENTO. PALAZZO STROZZI
Palazzo Strozzi and the Bargello National Museum host an unrepeatable exhibition displaying most of Donatello’s works present on the Italian territory.
A unique journey through the Renaissance and the life of this master.
19.03.22 – 25.03.22 ANTEPRIME DI TOSCANA. CENTRO STORICO
A week of events dedicated to Tuscan wines with tastings, meetings, and concerts, all around the city. The main representatives of the geographical areas of the “Grand Duchy of wine” will be present, from Chianti Classico to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, from Vernaccia di San Gimignano to Brunello di Montalcino and more.
26.03.22 – 28.03.22 TASTE. FORTEZZA DA BASSO
Taste is the salon, signed by Pitti Immagine, dedicated to the excellence of taste, gastronomy, well-being. Fuori di Taste, on the other hand, overwhelms the entire city. We advise you to follow the ever-changing calendar. In fact, in addition to the exhibitors inside the hall, Florence will be invaded by satellite events often hosted by historic venues, shops, private gardens that would otherwise be difficult to visit.
BASILICA DI SAN MINIATO AL MONTE
This splendid basilica stands atop one of the highest points in the city and will therefore make you enjoy a breathtaking view. To join it from our hotels in Santa Maria Novella, you will cross Ponte Vecchio and the little-known district of San Niccolò in the Oltrarno.
It is a journey of about 3 km, which can be covered in 40/60 minutes, but consider a fair difference in height (about 100 meters).
TRATTORIA GARGA. VIA DEL MORO 48r
Completely frescoed walls and full of paintings, sculptural busts, candles scattered throughout the place… This restaurant is considered the artists’ restaurant and has a truly magical atmosphere. We love their spaghetti with raw artichokes. Highly recommended!
